Calculating Usable Payload

This is a frequently asked question and here we will set out simply how you can calculate this important figure.

1. Choose your base vehicle, for instance, Ford Transit Single Cab Chassis FWD 350 L2.
    

   

2. Look at the max gross payload figure – this usually includes fuel and water but excludes driver and crew – small print must be checked as it may differ from manufacturer to manufacturer.
    

   

3. From this figure, you will need to deduct the weight of the body and the weight of driver and crew (we work on 100kg per person as this is realistic).
